VISITING BOLOGNA
it is absolutely necessary to have a look to its historical centre, especially Piazza Maggiore, one of the most beautiful square in the world that is the heart of the city and the favourite afternoon meeting point for people.
Palazzo Accursio faces the square, it is an architectural building built at the end of th 13th century, now City Hall and when leads the Morandi Museum.
Close to the City Hall you can visit also the Stock Exchange with the ruins of the ancient romanesque city "Bonomia", King Enzo Palace, seat of the supreme governing authority of the city, actually Congress Centre; the Neptune Fountain made by Giambologna and St. Petronio Basilica, italian gothic style to whom the poet Carducci dedicated a poetry: "...in winter raises the dark turreted Bologna..."
Do not forget St. Stephen's Church that has a big bond |

with Jerusalem and all the holy places connected with God's life. Here there is a Benedictine Monastery that traces its origin from Christianity.
Finally the two towers, the traditional symbol of Bologna: Asinelli and Garisenda, the last one mentioned in the 31th Canto of Inferno by Dante.
And more St. Domenico's Church that holds one of the most beautiful choir in the world, inlay wood made and the Saint's grave.
It would be very interesting to follow the city tracing of the Aposa stream in its underground water-course. The Aposa, that goes up to the Middle Ages, was activated during Bonomia times, and recently it has been reclaimed and now it runs again.
Very impressive and picturesque some city corners that a visitor can find out following the ancient stream bed.
And then Alma Mater Studiorum that is the oldest existing university in Europe and has earned the city the title of "the learned one".
Nearby, in the Archiginnasio Museum, former seat of the university, it is possible to visit the Anatomic Theatre built in 1637 and more than 6000 student coats of arms.
At least a pilgrimage to the Mount Guardia to worship an image the Virgin of St. Luca as well as reassuring visual landmark for Bolognese, even for those who are not Catholic. Once a year the Virgin image goes dowm the hill to St. Peter Cathedral and the Bolognese and plenty of people coming nearby can pay homage to her.
